About this website

Saxophone Ensembles

This website was created in 2026 as part of Pablo Torrealba's creative research project for his Master of Music degree at the University of Auckland. There are three main sections: Saxophone Ensembles Catalogue, Saxophone Ensemble Recordings, and Saxophone Workbook.

This regularly updated database includes original works and arrangements. Search by ensemble type, difficulty level, instrumentation, genre, and more.

Recordings of saxophone ensembles from duets to large ensembles in beginner and intermediate levels, to assist students and ensembles to practice and have a better idea of the music to play.

This area is for students participating in saxophone lessons that include ensemble practice. It is intended to facilitate self-regulated learning and maintain open communication with your teacher through a personal Practice Diary accessible via a password-protected area.

About the webmaster

Pablo Torrealba

I am a saxophone teacher with over 25 years of experience, a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and a Teaching Degree in Musical Arts for Primary and Secondary Education obtained in Chile, my home country. I have worked as a Montessori Guide in both general learning and music environments for children aged 3 to 12, and hold Suzuki Philosophy, Suzuki Flute I, and Suzuki Flute II certifications, which I obtained in Buenos Aires and Lima.
In 2015, I founded Saxtiago, Chile's first and only permanently active large saxophone ensemble, which performs a few benefit concerts each year.
In 2024, I moved to New Zealand to pursue a Master of Music by Research at the University of Auckland. My research focuses on integrating saxophone ensemble practice into individual teaching, with an approach that included principles of social justice, community music, and a central role for students' voices.
During my first two years here, I have performed on the four most common saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone) with the Auckland Saxophone Ensemble, the UniBand University of Auckland Concert Band, West City Concert Band, UniSax (University of Auckland Saxophone Ensemble), and saxophone quartets. I have also taught in a school and two music schools.
I am a father of two and used to be a beekeeper. I currently live in Auckland with my wife, where I study and work. I love swimming in pools and the ocean. You can contact me at pablo@saxlessons.nz
